Magnet Maker 3D

Make it work in the real world

Your first enclosed-magnet print

Verify geometry, color parts, and the insertion pause before printing.

An enclosed magnet print has a bottom skin, a cavity for the physical magnet, and a roof printed after insertion. The 3MF provides the geometry. Your slicer and printer provide the toolpaths and pause.

Start with a measured magnet

Measure diameter and thickness with calipers. Enter physical dimensions separately from clearance. The tool displays the resulting cavity diameter and depth. Actual printer fit can vary; test a small print before making a batch.

Understand the layer proposal

With a 0.15 mm first layer and 0.10 mm standard layers, layer N ends at 0.15 + (N − 1) × 0.10 mm. Layer 25 ends at Z = 2.55 mm. A cavity ceiling at 2.50 mm falls within that layer interval.

For an example 8 × 2 mm magnet with 0.25 mm extra depth and a 0.25 mm bottom skin, the requested ceiling is 2.50 mm. The tool proposes a 2.55 mm ceiling and 2.30 mm cavity depth. At 3.75 mm total thickness, that leaves a 1.20 mm roof. The proposal is applied only when accepted.

Import the 3MF as one assembly

Preserve the common origin and scale of all color parts. The lower section uses one selected SVG color; the top section preserves the visible artwork regions. Display colors describe parts, not guaranteed filament slots. Assign your actual filaments explicitly.

Verify the sliced result

  1. Set the same first and standard layer heights; disable adaptive layer heights unless you verify the complete schedule yourself.
  2. Inspect the bottom skin, open cavity walls, first roof paths, and color transition. Make sure supports or infill do not fill the magnet cavities.
  3. Add an insertion pause after the last cavity-wall layer and before the first roof toolpath. “After layer 25” and “before layer 26” describe the same boundary in the tool’s one-based calculation. Slicers may attach their pause action differently.
  4. Use your slicer’s and printer’s verified instructions. This site does not insert generic firmware commands or promise a working pause in its 3MF.
  5. Inspect that magnets sit fully below the roof plane, check polarity, and keep them away from the nozzle and motion system before resuming.
Software checks are not a printer test. A closed model cannot establish real-world fit, adhesion, bridging performance, magnet temperature tolerance, or holding strength. Start with a supervised test on your actual setup.

Small magnets require careful handling and storage, particularly around children and pets. Follow the magnet manufacturer’s handling and temperature instructions.
